Perhaps the most common weapon used by Nile Valley armies was the bow and arrow . The Nubians appear to have been particularly proficient with this weapon---the Egyptians sometimes referred to their land as "Ta Seti", which translates to "Land of the Bow". One series of models depicting archers of Nubian descent has been recovered from the tomb of 11th-dynasty Prince Mesehti; they apparently represent the many Nubian mercenaries used by the Egyptians.
